11/28/2018 7:59 PM It looks to me to be for Shlomo son of Chaim Dovid
Died on Tuesday 25 Cheshvan 5663

Name below: Sid... Schum..
11/28/2018 8:53 PM I too see "Shlomo son of Chaim David".

The year is [5]643, which would make it mid September of 1882 to early September of 1883.

11/29/2018 11:04 AM Hello,
It is difficult to resolve the discrepancy in the two readings of the year. The third letter in the date could be either a Samech (= 60), and I do slightly lean towards this,or it might be a Mem (= 40), as it looks almost identical to the Mem in the month of Marcheshvan. I realize that the little tip at the top left of the letter appears to be missing, but this is not unusual in old gravestones.
The stone says that the deceased died on a Tuesday. Interestingly, in both of the years in question, 5643 and 5663, the 25th of Marcheshvan was on a Tuesday, so the mystery remains. The 25th of Cheshvan in 5643 was equivalent to November 7, 1882; the 25th of Cheshvan in 5683 was November 25, 1902.
12/5/2018 12:32 AM Hello Cynthia,

The last five Hebrew letters on the bottom of the tombstone stand for the often-used phrase: "May his soul be bound up in the bonds of everlasting life."

Jo
