I've combined extracts from two marriage records - my g-grandfather Dawid Russ (above) and his brother Jakob (below).

I can read the first parts but have a question about the last two lines - ending 'syn blp Ela & Chaji Russ'
1. what does 'blp' mean?
2. I read the father's name as Ela - correct? What is the Hebrew/Yiddish equivalent of this name?

10/4/2018 5:42 PM Hi David,

"blp" is Polish abbreviation of "Blażenej Pamięci", ie blessed memory, in Hebrew: "Z"L or ז״ל (Zichron Kadosh).

In JRI-P name Ela appears 14,759 times for both male and female: it could be an abbreviation of Eliahu or just as full name. For Dawid and Jakob Russ name of the parents are: Eli and Chaja Russ.

Ela and Chaji names on certificates are shown in conjugated form
12/19/2018 7:30 AM 47. Jakob Russ, a merchant, born and residing in Boryslaw, the son of Ela and Chaj Russ, of the blessed memory.
