We would love to know what his real name was. He called himself William but we would love to know what his real name was so that we can continue the search. Many thanks for any help that can be given.

My interpretation is: WELWEL. There is a Yiddish given name of Velvel, which was popular during that time period. It would stand to reason that William would be chosen as the American version of this name....Jo

Velvel is the Yiddish variation for the Hebrew name Zev (another variation would be Wolf).

[It's still common today for people with the name Zev, Wolf or Velvel to use William as their legal name.]
