Could someone please help me with the pencil comment in the upper right? It appears to have been added in 1952[!!] That's the top line. The next line says Brustkrebs, which I assume is the cause of death; breast cancer. The third line is a mystery to me, as is why oh why was an addendum penciled in so many years after the record was made? Thanks for your help!

I received a private response that explains it all. I have a century bias. It wasn't 1952 that was meant, but 1852. The first line's a repetition of Rosalie JASTROW's birthday. The next line is indeed likely the cause of death, and the last line means 20 years of marriage, left 2 minor children. I have the marriage record; 20 years is right. My respondent was kind enough to find one of the minor children on a commercial website, where I'd failed.

Yes, it says Brustkrebs.

From other records I have seen with similar notes my educated guess is:
"26 J., 2 minderjäh.“ i.e, 26 years, 2 minor children“.

As to why this was added so much later and who it actually refers to - I have no clue because it does not seem to relate to the deceased person mentioned in the record. Hope it helps a little bit anyway.
7/26/2016 2:11 AM I don't think the annotations in pencil were added later but were made at the time the death was registered. I have seen lots of records like this. I think the date of birth was entered in a marginal note rather than in the body of the record when no authoritative documentation regarding the date of birth was provided. But why was it considered important to note down how many years the deceased had been married? Or how many children outlived the deceased? And whether they were minors or adults?
