This is part of my mother's case file from World Jewish Relief (then called the German Jewish Aid Committee), describing the assistance my mother received from the time she left Germany for England in May 1939 until she immigrated to the United States in December 1946. Can anyone tell me what the abbreviation OSD that appears several times in the column headed "Nature of Hospitality" means? I asked a volunteer at World Jewish Relief, but he didn't know.

I think the abbreviations are the initials of the person working at the organisation who added the note into the file. When I first started work in a UK Govt Office many years ago and we still had paper files, we had a document called a minute sheet at the front where we used to write notes relating to the other documents added to the file. Each time we wrote something we had to sign what we'd written with our initials - so if necessary someone else looking in the file could see who had written the previous note. Hope this helps.

It does not seem to be one person's initials as suggested above. I say this because the three capital letters are written by three separate people, based on the variations in the writing.
