This is, I believe, the Imperial Russian passport of my grandfather David who settled in London, England, in 1901. I'd very much like to know what the passport says. Please can someone translate it for me? I'd be most grateful. He was at first a compositor, then a journalist, writer, and translator. In 1913 he helped found and was secretary of Die Ziet, a Yiddish daily newspaper published in London, England.

9/11/2015 10:12 AM This isn't an international passport, but rather an internal passport giving the bearer permission to travel within the Russian Empire for a period of time. It says [subject to misreading where the handwriting isn't clear] that Duvid-Leyb Vol'fovich Ayzikevich, a meshchanin (townsperson) of the city of Voznesensk, Elisavetgrad uezd (district), Kherson guberniya (province) has this permission from June 7, 1902 to June 7, 1903. In the left-hand column it says he is Jewish, 25 years old, a clerk, and single. I think it may also say that no one else is included on the passport and that his military status is militiaman. I don't see any mention of the name Lipshutz. Ayzikevich would be a Yiddish form of Isaakovich.
