This appears to be a military-issued death record for Fritz Philippsborn,4. Jäg. R. 6 R. Jäg. Btl. 2. I would like to know what the document says about the circumstances of his death; where and how it happened, if the text gives this information.

On  Response
11/17/2014 8:49 AM Dear Judith,
the record was not issued by the military, the Berlin-Charlottenburg death registration was issued on the basis of information by the military,
the document describes that the death occurred "beim Kampf in der Siegfriedstellung" (in connection with the battle in the Siegfried position).
The Siegfried Line was a defensive position the German army withdrew to from March 17, 1917 to October 18, 1918, when they thought they could defend the battle lines better by withdrawing a little bit into fortified positions. You can find more about in the usual web sites.
Until next time
Fritz Neubauer

He had lived in the Fritschestrasse 40, Charlottenburg, Berlin, he was unmarried

"died the hero's death by an artillery shell"
