I would appreciate any assistance in reading several words/names which appear in script on this New York marriage certificate from 1896. These include the following lines: Residence (lines 3 & 12), Father's Name (line 8), Mother's Maiden Name (line 9), Mother's Maiden Name (line 19), Date of Record (line 24). Thank you in advance for your kind assistance. Rand H. Fishbein, Ph.D.

3/19/2014 8:53 PM This is wonderful! Written in English by someone used to using German. The very first word: "den"--*the* 25th of December.

Color: "Weith"--pronounced "Vite."

Age: 21J (Jahre=Years).

Groom's mother's maiden name: Chawe unbekan[n]t = unknown

Looks like Herbet Mandel is the Rev of Sirmaiser A S Cong[regation].

Final line (date of record): den 6 Jänner--Jan. 6 in the form used in southern Germany and Austria, and probably also in Galicia, etc.

The scribe is likely the rabbi/Reverend.
3/20/2014 7:59 AM Maiden name if a widow: ditto marks under single
Number of bride's marriage - (ie. none previously)
3/25/2014 9:29 AM
"Russland" is definitely German for "Russia."
3/25/2014 9:32 AM I also love these late-19th/early-20th century American records, written in semi-English by the rabbi. The law required rabbis and other officiants to report marriages to the New York City Department of Health on these forms, whether they were fluent in English or not!
