This postcard was sent to Matylda Sicherman in Borysław by Jacob Isak Sicherman, who gives his return address in the army in Cracow; it is stamped by the military. The picture is labeled “Troppau K.K. Militärskasino und Tempel,” and J.I.S. wrote two words in Hebrew above the image of the Temple (see separate image). He wrote earlier from Troppau (now Opava in the Czech Republic) on 13 Mar.; perhaps he bought this card there (see separate image).

Schlösien [Schlesien] habe mein man übergegeben. dan bin ich Dawnen geganen habe [Hebrew] gewen und zwischen bloss unsern galizische guthen [?] gebeitte dan habe [baruch hashem] Guth gegessen u. bin Erst um 10 [Hebrew?] obemals zurück früher hier ist das Tempel ober ich habe [sonst?erst?] nicht gebetten, dan es wahr mir nicht angenehm erst ich habe die Fluxx [Hebrew] gefunden

Saturday morning I have been in this city Troppau [Opava), which is the Capital of Silesia, I have handed over my man. Then I went praying, have been at [Hebrew] and meanwhile had only our good galic/galicic prayers, then I have [baruch hashem] had a good meal and returned again only at 10 [Hebrew?]. [Here the Synagoge service is earlier ?] but I have [first/else] not prayed, because I felt it is unpleasant for me, I [could do so only] after first I found the Fluxx [Hebrew]

I think the Hebrew in the first instance looks something like "oleh" or possibly that he was given an honor of bein called to the Torah, and really should have been an "aliyah".

After the 10, that is not Hebrew, but probably an abbreviation for the hour, but if it was so late, could that have been 10 PM or 10 AM?

Hier ist das tempel ober Ich habe dort nicht gebetten (gebetet) = Here is the synagogue, but I did not pray there.

After the name Leb, the Hebrew is not Baruch Hashem. It is the Hebrew acronym for Ad meah v'esrim, meaning you should live until 120, which was the age Moses died at. (Who could possibly deserve to live longer than he did???)

(Incidentally, there was a Herman (Chaim) Sicherman who married a great-aunt of mine. They lived in Kezmarok, Slovkia, before WW II.)
