This picture is of a 1929 Confirmation Reception for Jacob Berkowitz taken at the Astoria Manor in NY. My Grandmother, Claire Klepper Elkes, labeled her immediate family and many of her first cousins which carry the surnames of Klepper, Lobel, Siegel, Haimowitz and Yancolowitz. There are also Jacob and David Berkowitz labeled. The Marcus/Clara Klepper Lobel family with 7 children settled mainly in Southern California. The Yancolowitz family settled in Philadelphia. My line moved to South Florida. I assume the rest stayed in NY or NJ. I have also connected Schindelman/Schendelman and Schwartz (Nathan/Jennie) surnames to my family and they could be attending. I assume because there are so many cousins that the Berkowitz's are related. I found a Fannie Klapper married Sam Berkowitz in 1910 but cannot link Jacob or David to them or to each other. Please let me know if you can identify any others in this photo and/or have any other information on any of these families. Thanks!

3/17/2012 12:18 PM Hi, I am a member of Jewish Gen and got your post, yesterday. I stem from a small hamlet in northern Romanai, known as Remete or in yiddish Rimik. There my parents and siblings were from both large families. My aunt Sura was married to a Sam Berkovitch. She would now be approx. 115-120, she moved from the village prior to the war to Belgium where she would have met and married Sam Berkovitch as they were both involved in the diamond cutting etc. industry. She had 3 children, one resides in Florida, (isi) and married with 3 daughters and several grandchildren as well as a brother and sister in Israel also with a number of children. Our family name is Davidovici, (Davidowitz, Davidovits etc.) Isi now goes under the name of Isi Berk, as do all his children. I go under Davis. I know this makes for a lot of confusion, but a great many names changed during emigration. I do not know if this is useful, but it cannot hurt for trying
