This is portion of an immigration form, as written by a French-speaking clerk on August 1914 in Belgium.
This part relates to the immigrant's parents:
Father - Litman (Jurgrau / Yourgrau), born in ???? in 1854, alive
Mother - Orentlicher Luba, born in Grosny in 1862, alive
The question is: Can you identify Litman's birth place somewhere in Eastern-Europe of those days? Please bear in mind that the clerk wrote what he heard, probably using French-based spelling rules...

1/1/2012 7:53 PM Hello Yosef,

There seems to be a name of a town next to the name Litman, which appears to be spelled SIENKOWO. If you can access the JewishGen Town Finder, just type in this spelling and use the soundex system to search. You should find a town very similar, SENKOV, which provides the various names and spellings over the course of about 50 - 100 years.

Don't worry about spelling or country, as there were many changes in Europe during those years. See if this is what you need. Hope that this is helpful....Jo
1/2/2012 2:24 AM The town is Sienkowo, in Galicia, until 1920 in the district of Kamionka Strumiłowa of the Austiran Galicia, between the two wars , dirstrict of
Radziechów, Province of Tarnopol, east Galicia, Poland.

Best regard, Rivka Schirman
1/4/2012 10:10 PM The town near Kamionka Strumilowa was called Sienkow (not Sienkowo) under Austrian and Polish rule, and is now Senkov, Ukraine. Perhaps Sienkowo was the same place -- with the "o" at the end because of Polish declension. Do you know the location of Grosny? Possibly Sienkow was in the same vicinity.
