I have a five page letter written in Yiddish (I believe) but with Latin letters. I am trying to get a gist of the genealogical information.

Thank you.

7/10/2011 10:34 PM Just letting you know this is written in German and not in Yiddish.
7/12/2011 2:09 AM I would still say, it is Yiddish, even though the Latin alphabet is used.

Josl Weiskirch is writing to his niece [or nephew?]Mendl (location does not appear on this page). He introduces himself as brother of her late father, since they were not in contact before.
He has a son in Jarnow, Poland - under Nazi occupation - and asks if she/he (Mendl) could kindly send him travel papers to get out from there.

7/12/2011 7:48 AM I can understand the "nephew" "neice" confusion, but it's not "nefin" (neice). The curl above the u ("nefiu")was actually used to distinguish between u's and n's. You can see that curl on other u's in the text, e.g. on "du", "juden".

He mentions that Poland in now under Hitler's rule, and (you) know what he doet there to the Jews.

He wants the travel papers to get his son out of Hitler's hands.
