CROYDON HEBREW CONGREGAT1ON
Concurrently with the election of Mr. L.J. Super (late of Yarmouth) as Chazan and Teacher to the congregation, an effort is being made to place the administration on a firmer footing than hitherto. The congregation is increasing, but although, particularly generous support has been given by some of the members, additional support of a permanent nature is still needed. Services are held at 65 Croydon Grove every Saturday and during the festivals, and kosher meat can be regularly obtained in the-town. Instruction in Hebrew and religion is at present being given to about twenty children, and the furtherance of this formed one of the chief items discussed at a meeting of the congregants, which was held last week. Jewish residents who desire to join the congregation, should communicate with the Hon. Secretary, Mr. L. Isaacson, 26 Sydenham Road, West Croydon. The acting Committee will shortly convene a general meeting.

Croydon's application to join the Federation of Synagogues accepted.

The Jewish Chronicle, 13 July 1934

The Jewish community of Croydon is rapidly increasing, and a new Synagogue is being erected. Last Sunday, before a large gathering cf the members and friends, the foundation stone was laid by Mr. Charles E. Gaventa. Dayan H. M. Lazarus and Rabbi Twersky delivered addresses on the significance of the event. The new building will supply a long-felt want in the district, and in addition to the Synagogue there will be a communal hall. Mr. N. Rubenstein the Hon. Secretary, writes, appealing to our readers for financial support towards the new Synagogue and Communal Hall. "We are a small struggling congregation," he says, "and we need to raise £1,000." Any small subscription sent to him or to the Treasurer, at 30 Elm wood Road, West Croydon, will be gratefully acknowledged.
