Oxford Chabad Society and Chabad House were re-established in September 2001. Oxford Chabad Society is a registered Society at the University of Oxford. The Society is associated with the Oxford Chabad House and has an active student representation.

Earlier Chabad in Oxford:

In early 1988, Rabbi Gershon Overlander and his late first wife, Sara Leah, established a centre at 75 Cowley Road, Oxford, which served as the address of the earlier Chabad Centre or Chabad House in Oxford and laid the foundation for a Chabad student ministry in Oxford under the Lubavitch University Council. Later that year, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach was sent as the Chabad-Lubavitch shaliach (emissary) to Oxford, where, in 1989, he established the Oxford University L'Chaim Society which became the second largest ever students' society at the University. In 1994, he changed the society from a student society into an independent organization and later that year the relationship between the L'Chaim Society and Chabad was terminated. L'Chaim Society remained active until 2001.⁽ⁱⁱ⁾
