Bio - Marian Smith

Marian L. Smith is the Chief, Historical Research Branch at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the INS). She has lectured nationally on immigration, naturalization and related topics.  She has authored many articles, including “Women and Naturalization 1802-1940” for NARA, explaining the laws and regulations affecting the naturalization of women and guiding the genealogist in locating relevant records. She also wrote an info file for JewishGen, “A Guide to Interpreting Passenger List Annotations.”
