Until 1985, Hampstead Garden Suburb was split between two local authorities (both within the former County of Middlesex). The eastern part (which included both The Bishops Avenue and Eastholm, where the synagogue was situated) was in the Municipal Borough of Finchley, which had been incorporated as a Borough in 1933. (The western part was in the Municipal Borough of Hendon.)
