Bromley is a suburban town situated about 10 miles south-east of central London. It is now the administrative centre of the London Borough of Bromley,(iv) the southeasternmost of the London boroughs, bordering the county of Kent. Until 1965, Bromley was within the former Municipal Borough of Bromley (formed as an urban district in 1894 and incorporated as a borough in 1903), in the county of Kent.

Bromley has never had a substantial Jewish population.

  • (ii) Currently the only information on this congregation was its listing in the Jewish Year Books 1914 and 1915.

  • (iii) Rev E. Collins probably founded the congregation and was listed as its hon. secretary in both Jewish Year Books, 1914 and 1915, There were no other office holders listed for the congregation in the year books.

  • (iv) The London Borough of Bromley, an Outer London Borough within the Greater London administrative area, was created on 1 April 1965 upon the merger of the Municipal Borough of Bromley with Municipal Borough of Beckenham and the Urban Districts of Penge and Orpington and the Chislehurst part of the Urban District of Chislehurst and Sidcup. All these areas had then been part of the County of Kent.
