WOLVERHAMPTON (Staffordshire)

Published Data

A  -  There was a community in 1850, and in 1851 was listed in having 20 appropriated seats, an estimated [Jewish] population of between 50 and 100.

1874[a]

Synagogue, Fryer Street.  Founded 1858. Seat rentals from £1. 6s. to £10 per annum per annum.  Income 1872 £203. 13s. 11d. Expenditure, 1872 £173. 11s. 8d.

School, Snow Hill. Founded 1 May 1872. Number of Pupils, 40. Income 1872 £100. Expenditure, 1872 £85.

Hebrew Benevolent Society. Founded May 1872. Income 1872 £14. 6s. Expenditure, 1872 £9. 5s.

1901[b]

35 Jewish families.  1900 4 marriages.

Synagogue, Fryer Street. Founded 1858 seatholders 43. Annual income and expenditure, £200.

Benevolent Society and Shabbat Meal Society (founded 1867). 150 people were relieved during the last year with money and food, the income and expenditure being £20.

Hebrew School  (founded 1858) There are 40 (30 boys 10 girls).

Branch of Orphan Aid Society.
