Town of Hatfield Hatfield, with a population of some 40,000, is a town in the county of Hertfordshire in southeast England, about 20 miles north of London. It is part of the local government district of Welwyn Hatfield, formed in 1974 by the merger of the rural district of Hatfield (formed 1894) with adjoining localities. The Jewish Community Although there was an increasing number of Jewish residents in Hatfield from the latter part of the twentieth century, the town had no organised Jewish Community (unlike adjoining Welwyn Garden City). However, 2024 saw the founding of Chabad in the town. There is also now a group, attached to the Welwyn community, known as the Hatfield Jewish Community, which has its own website, Jewish Hatfield.
