County of Derbyshire

Derbyshire is a county in the east Midlands of England. Its principal towns are Derby (a unitary authority) and Chesterfield.

Jewish Community

The principal area of Jewish settlement in the county was the city of Derby, which had an organised community and congregation from the end of the nineteenth centuray until the 1980s (see Derby Hebrew Congregation). In the 2020s, a new Jewish communal group was established covering Derby, Chesterfield and the rest of the county (see below).

Formation:	A small communal Jewish group was in place in Derby by 2001. This combined in 2023 with a similar group in Chesterfield, the Chesterfield Jewish Community (JSCN Link - Chesterfield (member community) on the Jewish Small Communities Nework website), to form the Derbyshire Jewish Community, bringing together Jewish individuals and families from across the county of Derbyshire.⁽ⁱⁱ⁾
