David Preisler

I am Lawrence, the son of David Preisler and Lillian Miller. David was born in Rozavlea, Maramures, Romania and lived there with his family until the Shoah. He spent time in labor camps and escaped. During the war he did many things to survive, including serving in the Wehrmacht and later as an interpreter for the allied forces. After World War II he returned to Romania to find that the majority of his family had perished in the concentration camps. He established a lucrative horse trading business, but left Romania abruptly when he was told that in order to conduct business he would have to join the communist party. He returned to Germany and served in the German occupation police force and was involved in various nefarious schemes. My father emigrated to Israel in 1947 and fought with the Israeli army for Israeli independence. He emigrated to the United States in 1950 where he met my mother and they were married. He became a citizen of the United States in 1958.

Preisler (Praizler) Family

Litman (Leibman) Preizler and Chaia Rachel Fishman were the parents of David, Aba, Aizik Mordekhai, Chaim, Efraim, Chana, Tzvi Herschel, Moshe, Leib (Leon), Schlmo (Schimon), Izrael, and Yekhiel Mikhl. All but David, Moshe and Leib (Leon) were killed in the Shoah.
Efraim Preizler and (unknown) were the parents of Litman.
We believe that Hersch Preizler and Henya Rachel Jager were the parents of Efraim.
Moze Preizler was the father of Hersch.
Hersch Jager was the father of Henya Rachel.

Fishman Family

Burech Mendel (Menakhem Baruch) Fishman and Fagia (Fege) Moskovics were the parents of Chaia Rachel, Molly, Isidor, Julius, Joseph, Morris, and Anchel (Fishman) Hershkowitz.
Hersch Fishman and (unknown) were the parents of Beruch Mendel.
David Moskovits and Chaje Rachil Fried were the parents of Fagia.
There is a family story about the Fishman family walking from Russia to Hungary at some point.
