- Thanks Rachel, I'm not able to write directly to you, as you didn't leave a complete e-mail address. My "Cousin Hannah" - as far as I know - didn't have children. She married a man named Peter Samuelsen, later in life. Alpert was her maiden name - so she may have been related to you; but I don't think she could have been your great-grandmother, possibly an aunt or a distant cousin. Last I heard from her, she lived in New Jersey. I'd guess if she were alive, she'd be in her late 90's....& her mother was an Epstein (don't know what her mother's name was). We do have Alpert cousins out there, somewhere - the only one I knew was Hannah. If your great-grandfather had a sister or an aunt named Hannah Alpert (and a mother or grandmother who was an Epstein), we'd definitely have a match.....(I have a nephew who is 13 & nephew-cousin who will be 14 in a couple of weeks, on the subject of matches :)

- I am only 11 years old but I think that I might be able to provide you with some information. I was on the internet, putting random names down in the search box, names of people I knew. I typed in a name and found your site. My grandmother's name is sharon, I knew her father, Joseph Alpert, who lived long enough to know me. He maried a women name Hannah Alpert. Hannah Alpert and her husband Joseph and their two kids, sharon and arline, all lived in new york. I don't know much about Hannah's past since she died before I was born, but my great grandfather, Joseph live until july 26, 1998 (i think). He came from europe and immigrated to america, he also stoped at ellis island. I don't know if this information is good, because I only looked through this site very quickly and I'm not sure what it's really about. but it amazed me, the simalarities between the Hannah Alpert in the content of this page, and my great grandmother.

He was literate and read Yiddish as well as Russian and Ukrainian. He had brother(s) in Philadelphia in 1949.That's all I know so far except that he was married before he married my grandmother, Rose Levine, and that he had 2 daughters from that 1st marriage.Thanks for your reply.His address listed on the ship's records say that his city was 'Svanit" This makes me crazy - because the word Svanit in Russian literally translates as" It is called...."
