Mentored Study Group

This class is a study group on some of the mysteries our ancestors left behind. Topics will be set by the instructor for each two week session. The first session will be on IMMIGRATION: how did our ancestors get from their shtetl/village/town (their last residence) to the port of departure. How did they travel from the port of departure to the port of arrival and then on to their new residence. Your instructor will guide you through the research study process.

This course is intended for students who love a mystery, are willling to research a topic together and post their finds to the group. We will start with your personal mystery. For example "How did the BEIER famiy from Melitopol get to Rotterdam and then to New York." Together we will map the journey and learn the borders that were crossed, which routes were viable and which shipping companies were involved. Study Group Goal: to come up with a summary of our findings that may help other researchers.

Instructional guides will be provided.

Students must feel comfortable with computers, with dataase research searches and with posting to the JewishGen forum. Class is open 24/7. Cost is $50. for two weeks. For information, please email the instructor, Nancy Holden.
