JewishGen - The Essential Jewish Resource
Want to learn to navigate your way through the maze of Jewish data collections?
This course is a series of workbook exercises that will take you on a guided tour of the paths and byways that make up the JewishGen massive website. You will visit the links that connect the composite databases, projects, SIGs and open up the wonders of JewishGen.
Newbies, dabblers and serious researchers can benefit by using these guided pointers .
If it works for you, after this guided tour, consider the JewishGen individual research courses. It is important to note that this Basic 1 class introduces you to JewishGen, while Researching Your Roots on JewishGen is a 4 week personal mentoring course, where you will work with your instructor to use JewishGen to research a family branch.
This Basic course is not how to do your personal family research. For those of who you who want to begin family research, we strongly suggest you explore the mentored Genealogy classes.
Requirements: a knowledge of computers and an hour a day.
This course is open 24/7 on the JewishGen private forum. Here you can download the lessons and work on the exercises at your own speed. Tuition for Basic 1 is $25; this fee is waived if you qualify for JewishGen Value Added Services, having made a $100 donation to JewishGen General Fund within the past 12 months. You are then welcome to enroll at no additional charge (the system will recognize you and will not ask for a credit card; if it doesn't, please email the instructor). Registration will open two weeks before class begins..
