Background

The information in the Notarial Deeds from the Spanish-Portuguese period in Amsterdam is rich in commercial information — such as the businesses families were in, where their relatives lived, and often information from the last wills and testaments. There was also a great deal of information about the ships and ship owners.

They are well worth a much deeper study. For the purpose of this data, the focus is exclusively on the genealogical data. When the origin or location of a person reads Amsterdam and Bahia, Brazil at the same time, it means the person lived in two places; when it says Amsterdam alone, one must remember that they arrived in Amsterdam from elsewhere. This collection may not be complete. The dates are 1597–1603.
