28208 Photo Identification

7/17/2013 5:09 PM My mother's father Samuel Rief left for America about 1912 and her mother Tirtza died about 1918. They came from Seduva Lithuania but the towns of Ahbel,Lithuania,Krakes Lithuania, Ostrechan/Astrakhan, Russia on the Volga, Antylipt and Sarotof, Russia may have some meaning to this picture. It is a picture of the Jewish orphanage or child care school that took in my mother and her sister and brother, schooled them, fed them and provided shelter. This is all I know about this picture. I am hoping someone has some clue or familiarization with this orphanage or maybe even recognizes some faces in the picture. My mother finally felt safe and had fond memories of this wonderful place. Prior to her being there all she remembers is moving around the country. I'm hoping to discover a bit more information about this period in my mother's life. View the post, there are no responses
28209 Translation - Polish

7/17/2013 5:09 PM This is the birth registration of my g-grandfather Mendel Bruh from Sokal, 1869. From the name "Jacob" under his name and the German word "zwilling" written next to the names I gather he had a twin brother, but the columns on the right handside of the page seem to be written in Polish. Can anyone make out what it says? Thank you. View the post with its 3 responses

28205 Translation - Other

7/17/2013 5:08 PM Dear friends, would some kind soul please translate from Dutch to English that part of the document which is hand-written. Your comments on the provenance of the individuals ('Simjatens') would also be welcome. The document is a marriage bann, I believe, announcing the intended marriage between Isaac Israel and Reine Aron, the latter of whom was to acquire the name Zegen at the time of the Napoleonic name-adoption in 1811. The applicants' signatures are to be found at the bottom of the document in Hebrew script. The individuals are described as 'joud' and 'jodin' (Jew and Jewess). View the post, there are no responses
