On  Response
1/19/2022 1:30 PM Here lies

the modest and righteous woman

She spread her palm to the poor and stretched her hands out to the destitute

Mrs. CHAYA (CLARA) daughter of Reb Yehudah Aryeh the Cohen

SALDINGER, may they rest in peace

She passed away the 2nd of Kislev 5738

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life
===================================================

This is the first time that I have seen a woman's secular name included in parentheses after her Hebrew name.

The line "She spread ... destitute" comes from the biblical poem "Woman of Valor" written by King Solomon.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Her father's name, Yehudah Aryeh (meaning Judah and lion, respectively), is a common double name, as the symbol for the tribe of Judah was a lion. Her father was a Cohen, a member of the priestly tribe that traces back, son to father, to the first Cohen, Moses' brother Aaron.

The 2nd of Kislev of the year 5738 began at sunset on November 11th, 1977, and ended at sunset on the 12th.
