What is the significance of the star on his lapel? Obviously not a star of David. Could he have been some sort of sheriff, constable or authority? He looks quite proud!

1/21/2022 1:52 AM Hello Claire,

Do you have any idea as to the other medallions he is wearing on his chain. Those might give some clue as to the significance of the star. It seems as though a man would not have worn a personal Jewish star in that fashion. Just as a wild guess, it would seem more like an organization or designation. I would think that any engraving on the star and the medallions would probably give you the answer you need. Is there any way that you can zero in to get that information?

Have you thought of trying to search for Solomon Trachtenberg/Trakhtenberg from Kishinev on the Internet for other possible clues as to occupation, etc.?

Jo
