I would be grateful to know what the name after Moshe is (Aleph Vov Resh Yod?).

Here Lies
Moshe Uri
son of Mr. Shlemah Aharon the Levite
2/24/2016 5:31 PM Moshe Uri the son of Shlome Aharon the Levite
2/24/2016 7:59 PM Or aleph-vov-raysh means light. Ori aleph-vov-raysh -yud means my light. Moshe Ori,Moses my light. It could also be a proper noun-name.
Shoshanah Garshick
2/25/2016 4:46 AM The Hebrew spelling of Uri and Ori is the same and they also have the same meaning, my light. Uri, as a name, appears in the Bible (Bezalel ben Uri)and has been used for many generations, while Ori is a more modern version. This person, who was born in 1893, was most probably called Uri.
2/25/2016 5:03 AM The complete inscription is "[abbreviation for] Here lies Moshe Uri son of Mr. Shlomo Aharon, the Levite."
2/28/2016 12:34 PM Hello David,

Moshe Uri is Morris Handelman's double given name, while Shleyma Aharon is his father's double given name. There is no surname mentioned in Hebrew.

The word HaLevi indicates that the father carries the designation of being a Levite. This carries forward from biblical times from father to son, provided that the child is born of a Jewish mother.

Jo
