This is the last of the tombstone photographs I found among the papers of my cousin, a Holocaust survivor who died in 2019. He lived in Kovno and Gargzdai, Lithuania, during the Holocaust and later immigrated to New York. He visited Lithuania in the 1990s when the photographs were taken.

I'm not sure why he took this photograph. "Finkelstein" is not a name I recognize from our Birman and Olschwanger family. Do the other tombstones look significant? If so, I'm wondering why he didn't stand in a way to capture the images better.

Can anyone translate a few lines of the middle and back tombstones?

Thank you.

1/22/2023 1:08 PM The dark stone at the back is completely filled with lines of praise. The only relevant detail that can be seen is that his name was MORDECHAI.

==============================================
The stone that has fallen over is also a member of the Finkelstein family, a woman named SHAYNEH. If you need more details, let me know, and I will extract what I can see.

As to your question about why the photographer did not "stand in a better way": you can see how very crowded this cemetery is. He might not have been able to find a better angle. Not to mention the tradition that one is supposed to be careful not to step on a grave.
