Translation of the
Plock Yizkor Book

Project Synopsis

This project is being initiated in order to fund the translation of major parts of the 700 page Plock Yizkor Book (Published 1967 in Tel Aviv by the Plotzker Association in Israel “Hamenora” Publishing House). Originally published in Hebrew, Yiddish and just a few parts in English in 1967 in Tel Aviv, the editor is listed as Eliyahu Eisenberg. The goal is to eventually provide a more complete translation of the text regarding Plock and making it available online in the JewsihGen Yizkor Book Project.

Descendants of Plock and Jewish genealogists who have ancestors from Plock will be interested in learning more of the community, traditions, and lost relatives.  The project will also be of interested by a growing amount of Plock non-Jewish residents that are learning and researching the history of the Jewish Community of Plock, Poland.

Yizkor books are unique sources of information on once vibrant towns, primarily in central and Eastern Europe, whose Jewish populations were destroyed in the Holocaust.

The town of Plock was considered a very special community filled with rabbis, tailors, and other community members. The Yizkor book was written mainly by the Holocaust survivors containing details of the town's daily life, Rabbis, personalities, traditions, and rituals.

As funds become available, Yiddish and Hebrew pages will be translated into English according to importance, by a professional translator.  The project coordinator will review the translation and work closely with the translators.
