I am researching my mgf, Mendl Szelupski (Shelubsky?). From what I've found so far, I know he was born in 1911 in Slonim, Poland (now Belarus). He had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was a carpenter, and his carpentry shop (which was located right outside the ghetto) was apparently used as a hiding place for arms and ammunition to be handed to the partisans in the forest. He was a Bundist, and because of that, he was arrested by the NKVD (November 25, 1939) and sentenced to 5 years of forced labor in the Komi Republic (January 9, 1941). That’s where I stumbled upon an obstacle: In several memoirs, he is mentioned as being in Slonim in 1942, and most probably died during the destruction of the ghetto. Meanwhile, my mgm and my mom (who was born in July 1939 or 1938) were sent to Kazakhstan, where they spent the war and survived. After the war, they made their way to Lodz, where they stayed until 1949, then emigrated to Paris, France. My general goal is to find out what happened to him between his arrest and his death in the ghetto. My more immediate objective is to access his complete NKVD file. |
