In Memory of John Getzoff

3/8/1943 – 9/24/2017

With appreciation from the JewishGen Danzig/Gdańsk Research Division

John Getzoff of Delray Beach, Florida passed away on September 24, 2017 and we will miss him.

John was a hardworking contributor to our project to transcribe the 1931 census of Jewish families in Danzig, for which he was the primary volunteer. Even though he had no ancestors from the Danzig area, he "got totally involved" and very much enjoyed the work. In addition, he always felt as if he continued to learn something new.

John was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn College and Temple University in Philadelphia where he received his Master's Degree in Psychology. He worked as a Special Events coordinator for fourteen years at Manufacturer's Hanover Trust in New York City and for ten years as police dispatcher for the Metuchen Police Department before retiring and moving to Florida in 2008 with his wife Ina.

Danzig researchers will benefit from his diligent work as a volunteer and we thank him.

May John's memory be a blessing and may Ina be comforted among the mourners of Zion.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
