Jewish Life

In 1849, after had got the permission to live in rural area and to work on land, some Jewish families from that area mostly, rented some land from the State and moved there.

In 1858 4 families lived in Yurzhishki and the villages of Shubniky and Dubrova (those colonist were registered to Yurzhishki community). That time there was 1 praying house in Yurzhishki.

Economical Review.

Traditional activities of local population were agriculture and chopping of wood. That settlement was out of any trade ways and was not interesting for non-agricultural matters.

During Russian principality the authorities did a lot to develop the region because of military and fiscal reasons mostly. But Yurzhishki itself was the State owning agricultural settlement, as many other ones in the locality, and the authorities saw no reason to change or develop anything new there.

In 1858 3 families lived in Yurzhishki and the village of Shubniky (those colonist were registered to Yurzhishki community).

It was not too popular and profitable to work in agriculture, local Jews continued to return to their traditional businesses and left the colony in 1862.

General cultural information.
