About JewishGen
The Global Home for Jewish Genealogy
Our Mission
JewishGen serves as the global home for Jewish genealogy. Operating as the genealogical research division of the Museum of Jewish Heritage, A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, our core mission is to preserve our Jewish family history and heritage for future generations. We look at the past to reclaim the memory of what was, allowing these memories to shape our identity today and influence what we will transmit to the future.
What We Do
Offered as a free public resource, JewishGen provides unparalleled access to millions of records from around the globe. Our platform helps you uncover your roots through:
Historical Records
Search millions of global records. Our databases include more than 4 million records related to the Holocaust, and more than 4.2 million burial records. Records are continually added each month.
Making Connections
We offer award-winning resources such as the Discussion Groups, Family Finder, and ViewMate. These tools empower researchers to connect with tens of thousands of other JewishGen members who share similar interests.
Community & Context
Explore informational, educational and historical offerings, such as the Jewish Communities Database, Yizkor Book translations, InfoFiles, and KehilaLinks. These resources provide critical insights, first-hand accounts, and context about Jewish communal and familial life throughout the world.
Powered by Community
Founded in 1987, JewishGen has grown into a world-class organization thanks to the dedication of nearly 1,000 volunteers. For us, genealogy is more than names and dates — it is the ongoing work of preserving Jewish family history for the generations to come. Together, we have made thousands of family connections possible, helping researchers gather, document, and preserve their findings and share them with the Jewish community worldwide.
