Transnistra (Transnistria) is a region of the Ukraine between the Dniester and Bug Rivers.

Introduction:

My name is Arthur Rindner; I was born in Czernowitz, in the Russischegaße.

After my birth we moved to Storojinetz as my mother wanted to be near her mother my grandmother.

In 1941, one early morning the police, a priest and his flock plus our neighbors took us out of the house, coursed us, beat my father and mother and we were marched to a park which was a holding area. Later our Ukrainian servants brought us food and warm clothing.

Next morning started our long march to Transnistria.

In 1944, we were liberated by the Russians and we walked back to Czernowitz.
