Hachaver - Beginnings of Gordonia

Dov Dori-Dondushansky

In the early 1920s various Zionist youth organizations sprouted up in Yedinitz, but most of them did not endure, and disbanded. Only one organization, Hatechiya, that was established on the ruins of the previous organizations in 1923, attracted the best of the town's young people. Youngsters in my age group were not accepted into the organization because we were too young. A number of us who were of Bar Mitzvah age got together and we decided to start our own group, Hachaver. We held our meetings in our parents' homes. We had parties held in Hebrew; we sang Hebrew songs and we danced dances we learned from the pioneers who worked in our town at that time as tree cutters in preparation for training for Palestine.
