Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

Searching for Wolman/Vollman ancestors who emigrated from Poland to Bessarabia, I need these four documents from the Lodz archives translated into English. If anyone can comment on them to help me understand their meaning, that would be great.

18228 Interpretation

3/6/2011 4:28 PM I would like to know the town that is listed in column 6 of this 1857 passenger list for an arrival at New York. Please look at line 7 for Marianne Brilawsky (BRYLAWSKI)and make a suggest for the town that is listed. It looks like Krobopkin to me but JewishGen has no suggestions for a town close to that spelling.

Thank you

18218 Do you recognize?

3/6/2011 4:25 PM This lady's name is Grete Rosenthal. I found her photograph on the yadvashem site. Her signature also found on that site ties in to a letter from her found among my father's old papers addressed to sister-in-law Sofie. This is a mystery as Rosenthal and Landesdorf, Grete and Sofie are not names known in my family. It would be interesting to know how the letter (loaded onto viewmate ID 18213 and 18214) ended up with my family and indeed to discover whether Rosenthals are part of my family.
