Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

12/6/2006 Could somebody please translate (or at summarize) this page from the 'Gemeindebuch' of Schweinshaupten in Lower Franconia, Germany?

The top half appears to have been signed by Hirsh Sheyt, whom I believe was Hirsch Scheid, the son of Moses Matthes Scheid. The document is dated 21 Iyyar 596 = 8 May 1836.

Many thanks, Justin Levy

6188 Photo Identification

12/6/2006 I'm hoping to date this photo.

It is two young ladies of Dvinsk, said to be my cousins. I'm guessing this was taken between 1905 and 1910, but have no other information other than the existence of this picture and that the names were Sterka and Malka.
