Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

25036 Translation - Yiddish

11/28/2012 4:38 PM Please translate into English.

Postcard opens 'Dear Meir,' (Meir Knorozowski), who changed his name to Martin Cohen when he arrived in US. See my previous viewmate entry, which shows an image of the other side of this postcard, written in Russian and sent from Russian-controlled area, possibly near Bialystok.

Thank you for your help.

25031 Translation - Polish

11/28/2012 4:37 PM I have extracted most of the info from this marriage document of Chiam Birenbaum son of Berek and Basia to Chaja Sura Dszytnik in 1846 in Nowe Miasto nad Pilica. However, there are two mentions of a Szlama Birenbaum, but I am unable to determine who he is. I was wondering if there is any indication who this is. Is Szlama an an uncle or some other relation to Chaim Birenbaum??

Thanks in advance.

24999 Translation - Russian

11/28/2012 4:33 PM I'd appreciate a full translation of this record. There was one that was translated recently which looks very similar, but this is written by someone different (very different handwriting), and I believe there are some differences in what is written. Also, I was hoping to get clarification on the daughter's name, since it was difficult to read in the last one. Thank you! View the post, there are no responses
