Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

8/12/2012 4:15 PM Would be very grateful if someone could assist me in translating Sarah Fisher's headstone. I have tried to enhance the image in Photoshop as best as possible. If there is a way to make the engraving stand out better, I would be happy to try again. Thanks in advance. View the post with its 1 response
24005 Translation - Yiddish

8/12/2012 4:15 PM I would appreciate it if I could get a translation of the hand-written additions on this Ketubah from the Yiddish to English.

If the translation can summarize things as they are in context that would be appreciated.

Thank you.

23776 Translation - Yiddish

8/12/2012 4:12 PM This card was sent to (Jacob) Isak Sicherman, addressed according to his profession (slaughterer and cantor). The fragmentary postmark seems to say 1915. In that year, he was serving in the Austro-Hungarian army, but he worked professionally when he had time off from his military duties. Translation requested, and transcription into Roman alphabet if possible. View the post with its 1 response

The return address, in the Roman alphabet, is given as Georg Tausch Fischbein (?) in Neustadt, Karlsbad, No. 397. Translation and, if possible, completed transcription are requested.
