20234 Translation - Yiddish

9/21/2011 7:56 PM This is the label for the accompanying picture (http://www.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/viewmateview.asp?key=20235).

I believe the picture shows some members of the Kartun/Cartoon family from Shavli, Lithuania and was probably sent to my great grandmother Masha Golda Kartun Robbins who was living in Philadelphia. The older man in the photo might be her brother Ber Kartun who ended up in the Shavli ghetto.

I am not sure of the location referred to in the label (looks like Pogelava) and can't find any reference to it online.

I also need help with the Yiddish label.

Thank you,
John

20219 Tombstone

9/21/2011 7:54 PM This is a better photo of the tombstone that I posted recently. It was made before the plaster was put over the German given name. Previously the Hebrew given name was interpreted as Yachle - is this correct, or does the better photo give you another idea for the Hebrew given name? View the post with its 4 responses

20208 Tombstone

9/21/2011 7:52 PM I am having trouble with the first two lines of the Hebrew. I understand most of the words, the name and the date, but I think I am missing something in the translation because when I try to translate it, it doesn't really make sense to me.
