Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

1/11/2012 3:51 PM Who is she? (labelled "maternal aunt" by George Schecter, parents Abraham Schecter/Shechter and Anna/Chene Tileshevsky) - that would make her a daughter of the previous photo labelled "maternal grandmother"? View the post, there are no responses

1/11/2012 3:50 PM BULLETIN! I've just realized that her name may be NAOMI (probably NECHAME) TILESHEVSKY!

Who is she? (labelled "maternal grandmother" by George Schecter, parents Abraham Schecter/Shechter and Anna/Chene Tileshevsky)
And: what might be the significance of what she is holding?

21249 Translation - Yiddish

1/8/2012 4:13 PM This is the back of a photo of an unknown little boy found with my grandmother's belongings when she died. She emigrated from Semezhevo, (Slutz Ued, Mink Gub) by herself as an 18 year old in 1908, leaving her entire family behind. The only names we have are her father's (Schmuel) and her beloved brother Beryl. I would love to know if there are any names or places on this photo. Thanks! View the post with its 3 responses
21250 Translation - Yiddish

1/8/2012 4:13 PM This is on the back of a photo of my grandmother's beloved brother who was murdered some time after the date on this photo. I believe I can make out the word Semezhevo down at the bottom (spelled differently from the other photo back I have submitted) but I can not figure out what he was saying or if he signed his name. I am sorry the scan is so dark. This was a tiny, much handled photograph. I would be very grateful for any information. View the post with its 2 responses

1/8/2012 4:13 PM The photo is printed as a Carte Postale. I want to know whether the image is of my great uncle, Morris Sederman, as suggested by the writing on the photo. Would he have been able to have his own photo printed as a Carte Postale? View the post with its 2 responses

21246 Translation - German

1/8/2012 4:12 PM I would like to know the profession of Selma Eisinger's father Ignatz Eisinger. It looks like '....handler'.
Many Eisinger relatives were animal dealers or 'kuhhandler', but this looks different. Ignatz also owned a village shop.

1/8/2012 4:11 PM This writing is on the back of a photo that I believe are my mother's maternal great grandparents Moshe Bair Izenkop and his wife Pessya, from Mohyliv-Podilskyy. It is also possible they are David Glocer and his wife Fanny Kopust Glocer, my mother's paternal great grandparents from Antipol and 'Prusiner' Belarus. Can anybody help with the translation? I don't even know what language it is. View the post with its 2 responses
