Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

19311 Tombstone

6/19/2011 5:29 PM Could anyone please translate the Hebrew on my greatgrandmother's grave stone? I'm hoping for more information (any) about her. I'm trying to find out more information about her family whose last name was Skolar, Scholer, or Skolyar depending on the way I've seen it and heard it pronounced. I thank all of you for any help you can give me.

4944 Do you recognize?

6/19/2011 5:27 PM Faigle KANOWICZ (or KACHANOWSKA) and daughter Rivka, taken in Suwalki, Poland c. 1910. KANOWICZ/KACHANOWSKA was the maiden name of the mother, I do not know her married name. Rivka immigrated to Isreal and married a man with the surname MIROVSKI, they lived on Ushiskin St. in Tel Aviv in the 1970s, had a son (Yigal?) and a daughter named Aviva. Do you know this family?? 5384 Photo Identification

6/19/2011 5:27 PM From the gravestone of Louis GOLDFELD in Woburn, MA. I'm certain he is a relative of my Goldfeld/Goldfield family, but cannot make the connection. Do you recognize him? He was married to Fannie, lived in Philadelphia, NY and then MA., and died 11-4-1928 at the age of 70 years. View the post with its 1 response
4943 Do you recognize?

6/19/2011 5:26 PM Photo taken in 1931 around Pittsburgh, PA., USA. The girl on the top row, far right was my grandmother, Ruth Kwall (formerly Rebeka Kowalska of Sejny, Poland). Do any of the other girls look familiar? I have a series of these photos and can email others to anyone who would like to see more. The other girls are likely also immigrants from the Suwalki region of Poland. View the post, there are no responses

6/19/2011 5:26 PM Are you related to the MINTZ family? They were farmers from Colchester, Conn., USA c. 1900. I have a whole album of beautiful photos that I'd love to share (and identify). View the post, there are no responses
