Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

12/3/2003 I'd like a translation of this Yiddish inscription. It appears on the back of a photograph of a young boy on a horse. View the post, there are no responses

Part 2 from 11 Jul 1921, ? Lodz, Poland

These letters have just surfaced and could be from the same great uncles who didn't immigrate with their 2 sisters. One sister was my husband's grandmother. In a previous letter one great uncle pleaded for money to be able to immigrate.

I would be so grateful if you could translate these letters.

We do not know what happened to these great uncles and their families
Thank you so much,
Corinne

Hello, this is written on the back of a photo of Gizika/Zizi Litman to her Aunt & Uncle, Herman & Manea Cohn. I think Herman and Manea (my grandparents) were in Chernovitz at the time.
From the looks of the photo, Paul was her boyfriend or engaged? Hoping the text says something about that. She died in the Holocaust, at, I think, 16. She was in plays and acting, so he might have been a cast member in some play she was in. I think it's in Romanian. Might not be. Thank you!
