On-line information about this woman, Masha Rivel (Ryfka) Klugman née Rapoport, my GGGG-aunt, is incomplete.

I would be grateful to learn the names and dates/ages of the people mentioned. I am also curious about how her father's name and title (rabbi?) are presented. Is there an indication that she remarried after her first husband died (when she was just 29 years old). BMD records on line identify two children. Does the inscription suggest there were more? Anything else of note?

Many thanks,
Ed Rappaport

On  Response
8/1/2014 7:37 AM The important woman Ms. Mascha Rikl
daughter of the famed exceptionally pious our rabbi & teacher
Mordekhai Yehuda the Kohen (Priest) Rappaport of blessed memory
Wife of Mr. Israel Chaim Klugman
Who all her days raised orphans
in her home and guided them to the house of Torah study
And her steps were toward the canal(?) house
To visit them and sustain them, and her maintenance and support
Took place during a life of distress. She died 4 Sivan
Year 5653 (1893)
By our (lesser) count
May her soul be bound in the bonds of everlasting life

So, the orphans may have been those of her & her first husband

but it's interesting to note that the word for "famous" is misspelled, possibly due to a heavy yiddish accent.

as well, even though the the phrase "house of the canal" is quite clear, its meaning is not. possibly an old-age home or a cemetery. (different words entirely, but with a similar sound.)

in any event, it's clear that she was known for good deeds.
