It was registered in Bas Rhin (Alsace). The place is now spelled Scherwiller.

Scherweiler am 10ten Mai 1882.

Vor dem unterzeichneten Standesbeamten erschien heute, der Persönlichkeit nach bekannt, der Handelsmann Alexander Hurstel, wohnhaft zu Scherweiler in der Orlengasse, israelitischer Religion, und zeigte an, daß von der gewerblosen Maria geborenen Levy seiner Ehefrau, israelitischer Religion, wohnhaft bei ihm zu Scherweiler in seiner Wohnung, am zehnten Mai des Jahres tausend acht hundert achtzig und zwei Vormittags um ein Uhr ein Kind weiblichen Geschlechts geboren worden sei, welches den Vornamen Karoline erhalten habe.

Before the undersigned Civil Registration Officer appeared today, known personally, the meerchant Alexander Hurstel, residing in Scherweiler at Orlen Street, of Jewish religion, and announced that Maria nee Levy, without occupation, his wife, of Jewish religion, residing in Scherweiler with him in his dwelling, on the 4th of May of the year 1882 at 1 a.m., gave birth to a female child who obtained the given name Karoline.

Note: The father's name is mentioned by the German form Alexander, but he signed with the French form Alexandre. This is typical for the (then) bilingual region of Alsace.
