I would like to know if this decanter came with my grandmother from Ukraine.

8/6/2012 9:27 AM What's on the bottom? Any marks or inscriptions?
8/7/2012 12:17 AM It looks a lot like Bohemian or Czech etched red glass, but whether it was acquired in the old country or in US, I don't know how to tell. If you google this category, you will see items similar to this.
8/7/2012 1:50 AM It's a classic late 19th century Cranberry Glass (made using a gold oxide compound which at high temperature turns red) decanter from Bohemia which is more or less the area of modern Czech Republic. Such decanters - and matching wine glasses - were exported throughout Europe. I'm not sure if they were also exported to the US.
