11/14/2009 The snazzy clothes makes me think the head of the family (in the background)was a tailor. From the headcovering of the men I would say they were lItvaks.
12/27/2012 1:12 AM Hello Andrew,

The men have beards and traditional head covering, while the women are modestly dressed. This would indicate that they followed orthodox traditions. It is my guess that the older couple are the parents. Since I do not see a wig on any of the woman, I have to assume that these are their adult children and a younger child. If one of the young woman would be married, she would either be wearing a wig or head covering.

Although they appear to be well dressed, sometimes the clothing worn were props from the studio of the photographer, so it is hard to determine their affluence or financial situation.

Another possibility is that the younger man and one of the women are married, and the younger girl is their child.

Hope that information will give you something with which to work....Jo

12/28/2012 3:37 PM Hi there
I would say roundabouts 1890 - 1910, parents at the front sitting down,
The two ladies at the end look alike so sisters, the younger sister holding the book has no wedding ring, the other sister on right end is wearing a wedding ring so next to husband, could be their daughter at the front and the other lady at the back is wearing black, so most likely a widow, not sure who she could be. Maybe older sister or the man at the backs mother. Or even the mother of the two sisters and the older couple are the grandparents of all the 3 girls.
You have to see who resembles who.
Regards
Pauline
