| Home | Polish Volhynia, 1921-1939After WWI, the newly reconstituted Poland and the Soviet Union fought a bitter war that lasted until 1921. At the war's end, the Polish border extended eastward to encompass portions of what is today Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine, including the western portion of Volhynia. The Volhynian area was contained in the Polish province "Wolyn," and included the major towns of Kovel, Lutsk, and Rovno, as shown in the map below. Some Volhynian areas north of Kovel were made part of the Polish province of Polesie.
