By-Laws SFBAJGS--By-Laws

SFBAJGS Bylaws Update
Notice to Members

July X, 2017

Dear SFBAJGS Members,
In order to bring them up-to-date, a Board-appointed Bylaws Committee recently reviewed and updated our Society Bylaws, which were last amended in 2003. Our process included a review of bylaws from other genealogical societies and non-profits, and a review of our proposed changes by an attorney, a Society member who kindly offered his services pro bono.
This update includes changes needed in our increasingly digital age, and other adjustments  highlighted below.  The Board approved these updated bylaws at its meeting on June 25, 2017. We now offer the proposed amended bylaws to you, our members, for your approval. Current members (i.e. those whose dues have been paid for 2017) are asked to vote by July 31, 2017.  A simple majority of yes votes among votes cast by the Members will approve the new amended bylaws for our society.

The  main changes are:

  1. The addition of a Society Objective: to support documentation and memorials related to Jewish communities and sites, including those that no longer exist.
  2. The defining of Elected Officers as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
  3. Clarifications of text throughout, including regarding elections and Officer duties.
  4. The addition of  language to recognize the use of digital media (replacing “libraries” with “repositories” for example).
  5. The addition of articles on conflicts of interest, compensation, non-liability and indemnification which are consistent with current nonprofit practice.

For your convenience:

As a member, you will have been mailed a paper ballot.

AND, all members have been emailed a special issue of our Constant Contact Newsletter with a link to an online ballot.

Please vote only once!

We appreciate your time and interest, and look forward to our continued mutual exploration in the world of Jewish genealogy.
Sincerely,

Jeremy Frankel
President, SFBAJGS
